RP with Cissie

Kon scrawled a note to Bart explaining where he'd gone and that he'd be back later and grabbed his mp3 player. He wasn't nearly as fast as Bart or Clark, so he had a long flight ahead of him and he needed something to listen to.

He flew out and over the Pacific ocean. He hoped he remembered the way to St. Elias'. It had been a while since he'd visited it.

"Hey, it's my fault, okay?" Kon kept hugging her, happy to be there a long as she needed. "I should have thought."

Her voice was muffled when she said, "You didn't know I was going to get all irrational about it."

"Still. If I didn't know that was gonna make you feel bad, I'm losing my touch." He smiled. "But hey, it's okay now, right?"

She pulled back enough to look at him, swiping at her eyes and offering a small smile in return. "Yeah, it's okay. I guess I'm just--a little touchy."

"No problem," Kon said, pulling out of the hug. "So. How you been?"

Cissie tried to make her smile believable and reassuring--she wasn't sure if she managed. "Um, okay?"

"Uh huh," Kon sat on the bed. "Sorry I wasn't there for a while."

Cissie sat next to him, offering another, slightly more sincere smile. "It's okay. It can't be easy, coming back from the dead--and getting a new roommate."

"You mean Bart?" Kon smiled back. "He was living in a freaking motel! Kind of felt I had to do it."

Cissie nodded. "I know--I'm glad you did it."

"He took some convincing." Kon didn't look at Cissie. "I'm worried about him," he said.

She looked at him, frowning a little. "How come?"

"He doesn't seem to be dealing all that well with coming back," Kon said. "I mean, he's not the same Bart we knew, not exactly. And I think he's worried we won't like him anymore."

Cissie sighed, rubbing the back of her neck. "Yeah," she said slowly. "I noticed that. Has he told you what happened while he was... gone?"

Kon nodded. "He married. He named his kids after me and Tim."

Cissie nodded with him, sighing. "Yeah, I heard. I think--he'll be okay, Kon. He's just going to need some time, I think."

"I know," Kon said. "But still. It's just...he's Bart. I'm so used to him being like a little brother, and suddenly he's thirty. Or fifty or whatever. I don't even know."

She sighed again, rubbing her neck. "I know. It's--strange, and it'll take some getting used to, but--he's still Bart and he's here."

"Yeah, and that's really great," Kon said. "Coming back with him not here was just...not cool."

Cissie gave a small, sad laugh. "Yeah. It really... sucked, without you two."

Kon winced. "Yeah, sorry about that. I'll try not to die again. Really too complicated, you know?"

She suddenly didn't trust herself to answer, so she leaned over and hugged him, pressing her forehead against his collarbone.

Kon hugged her back. "Missed you," he said again.

She really didn't want to cry, but she could feel herself starting to, so she squeezed her eyes shut and tightened her grip on him. "Missed you too," she murmured. "I'm sorry."

"Nothing to be sorry about," Kon said, smiling comfortingly at her.
