Lunch with [livejournal.com profile] angelbuffy (Spoilers for Adventure Comics #7)

Kon's life could get so weird sometimes. Which was, of course, pretty normal for a superhero. Still, it wasn't often his life reached this level of weird. He still felt like he could sleep for a week. But he was also really, really hungry, so he was more than happy to go get food before crashing.

He led Buffy to a really good sandwich place he knew. They could chat about his crazy life and eat good food. It'd be fun. And then he could sleep until the next emergency.

It was about time Buffy went out for lunch, or ate something other than burnt food and apples. She'd be the first one to admit that her eating habits as of late were seriously lacking in nutrition.

All the talk of high school, then death just made her that much more hungry. If they were gonna talk about such things, they should get some damn food. So that's what they were doing. Not to mention the fact that Buffy was going to eat with a literal superhero....so that fueled it. Sandwiches sounded great, and she was definitely going to order an extra pickle.

She ordered her food, and sat down at a table by the window. What the hell, interesting conversation away.

"Let's talk weirdness, Kon."

"Boy, where do I even start?" Kon wasn't sure how much about the Black Lantern thing Buffy even knew. He suspected it wasn't much. So he could technically just start at the beginning or something clear like that, but where was the fun in doing things the easy and straightforward way?

"I was a zombie for most of yesterday," he said casually, taking a bite of his sandwich. "Tried to kill my girlfriend and everything."

Buffy was nodding at him, listening intently but absentmindedly taking a bite of her sandwich. When he mentioned he was a zombie, she was chewing away and still nodding, until she swallowed hard and stared at him. Talk of zombies wasn't out of the norm to her until talk of her friends becoming one. That was just weird, so she needed clarification.

"You? A zombie? A flesh eating...smelly zombie?" She set her sandwich down. Ew. Zombies. She hated zombies.

"Not exactly. I mean, I don't think I smelled at least." He frowned. He'd have to ask Cassie about that later. "No, see you know how I was dead and came back? Well, turns out that lease on life was supposed to be temporary. Nekron decided he wanted all us formerly dead people back. I got a black ring and suddenly no control over myself." He looked down at his sandwich. "The things I said..." he shook his head. It wasn't true, and it wasn't important. "I almost killed my girlfriend, but I managed to whistle for my dog and he flew in to help her fight me, then I managed to heat vision her a message telling her to fly to the Fortress of Solitude where my corpse is hanging around waiting for a thousand years until the Legion can resurrect me and send me back to the present. The two bodies confused the ring and I got it to fly off my finger. Of course, I wasn't about to let that thing use my other body since, you know, I need it, but luckily I finally figured out freezing breath! So I got rid of it and my girlfriend threw the ring to the moon." He took another bite of his sandwich. "Also, now I have all of Superman's powers."

"Every zombie that I've ever..dealt with," She wouldn't say killed, because now she knows his stance on killing things. "Has smelled really really bad. But seriously, that's not even the main thing here. The point is...that you were a freakin' zombie." Again she stared at him, trying to follow. That was... weird. This whole conversation was weird, and way too interesting to even think about food.

Which, when one thinks about it? That's damn interesting. She took in a deep breath, trying to figure out where to start. She wanted to make sure she was up to speed here. Not that that's ever possible considering he's superboy. But still.

"So the only control over yourself that you had was your heat vision? And how do you figure out you have freezing breath? Do you just think it and it goes?" Then her eyes widen. "Did Superman have X-ray vision?"

"I also managed to make a really high pitched whistle. Krypto heard it and flew in to help me. He's a good dog." He grinned and took another bite out of his sandwich.

"A lot of dead people have been rising. And you can't rekill 'em or anything. They just keep fixing themselves unless you blast 'em with a lot of light. And we've been fighting 'em for so long, but they just kept coming, and ripping out people's hearts." He swallowed, looking down. "It's been... pretty awful. But then they decided us previously dead people needed to stop being alive and we got the black rings."

He put his sandwich down and picked up his drink. He blew on it lightly and it frosted, suddenly chilly. "I figured it out when the ring made me use it. I didn't even know I could before then. Not all that different from how I figured out about my heat vision. How come the bad guys are so much better at using my powers than I am?" Kon scowled for a moment, then glanced up at her. "Uh huh. I've had that one for a while too. "

Buffy had given up on her sandwich for the time being. This story? She seriously felt like she was in the middle of a Superman movie. It was unbelievably cool, so her thoughts of being hungry just temporarily flew out the window. Didn't stop her from taking an idle sip of her drink. Which by the way? Totally cool that he could instantly chill freakin' drinks like that. It'd save a lot of energy if one cared enough for the environment.

"See, and this is where I'm starting to get the feel that you're in my world. People rising, ripping out hearts... it's totally my forte." She laughed and rested her elbow on the table.

"Because if they didn't have the advantage, then you wouldn't have nearly as much fun figuring it out? Besides, if they weren't so great at it, then you would have never figured out you had them....? I don't know, I find myself at a loss for explanations."

Her eyes instantly widened. Suddenly? She felt as though she wasn't wearing enough clothes. Ever. She needed at least ten more layers. "Uh..... Oh."

Kon smiled a little and shook his head. "You don't need to wear lead underwear or anything around me, don't worry. I don't use my x-ray vision for that kind of stuff." When he was younger, he'd wanted x-ray vision so badly for just that purpose, but by the time he'd actually developed it, he was a little more mature. "I mean, I'm not that kinda guy, and if I were, my girlfriend would kill me. Then Superman would kill me. And Superman's mom would get disappointed in me, and I really couldn't take that."

"That's awfully smart of you, Kon. Thank God. I choose to trust you, because if I even think about it, this conversation is just going to get weirder." She gave a soft chuckle at his response, and nodded, really believing him this time.

"Having Superman mad at you, then his mother? Yeah, I can definitely see why you wouldn't want to do that. So..." She said, giving him a cheeky smile, "What's your favorite ability? My God, you've got enough of them to choose from."

[identity profile] ihavettk.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Freezebreath right now, cause it's new and... cool." Kon smirked at the pun.

"But generally? Pretty close tie between flying and tactile telekinesis. TTK's the one that's only mine. Superman doesn't have it, no one does but me. And flying, well." He grinned. "Flying."

[identity profile] angelbuffy.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"I see how that's cool. You never have to wait for ice cubes again. It's darn awesome. Can you change its temperature? Like.. say, if someone was really warm, you could give them a sixty degree wind? That would be awesome."

She nods. "Well, we'll just go with a three way tie? I don't think anything can top flying, you've got originality with the TTK and, you've got something new. Three way tie."

"I mean, I haven't practiced enough with it yet that I'd feel safe trying it, but probably. Eventually. If I can light a candle with my eyes, I'd think so." He took a gulp of his drink. "I like to think that I'm just awesome all around awesome, you know?"

[identity profile] angelbuffy.livejournal.com 2010-02-16 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Awesome." Sometimes, as much as Buffy will try to hide it? Envy might as well make her face green sometimes. So she nodded and laughed. "You do seem to not lack any qualities."

Kon laughed. There were some major downsides that came with all that power. Mind control. Evil human genes. Worries about having a soul. Being referred to as "the clone." But he mostly did like being himself. "Thanks. It's pretty neat."
