hey do you know why it's called chunky monkey? monkeys aren't appetizing. at all.

[Pedantic enough to be worthy of Robin, but he still doesn't totally know how to deal with Kara. She's nice enough, but she knows way more about him than he knows about her. It's just weird.]

black forest, obviously. but chocolate fudge brownie is a good second choice.

How many flavors have you even tried? Did Krypton have ice cream?

you need cows for ice cream and there weren't any cows on krypton so... no.

but i've been on earth for [ hang on ] rao, seven or eight years now, depending on how you count it. so i've had plenty of time to try all kinds of earth food.

[ if he listens carefully, kon can probably hear kara laughing in the distance. ]

yes i know what you mean. and yes you're an adult in the future.

[He can. Super hearing is fun. Though he's not totally sure if it's her or someone else coincidentally laughing at the same time. He's still got some fine tuning to do.]

[ she pauses and then, curious, says out loud: ] Do you have super hearing yet?

[Yes and no. He has it, but he's not very good at focusing it yet. Luckily, it's the middle of the night and few enough people are talking that he can hear her, though it's weird and staticky through the sound of snores.]

Yeah, but it's new.

[He considers telling her that texting is easier--which it is--but this is good practice. He focuses on where he heard her voice, trying to tune out all the other noise of the sleeping Mansion.]

Still getting used to it, huh? [ she remembers going through that. ] Has Kal been helping you with it at all?

[If she uses x-ray vision right now, she'll see exactly how much he's rolling his eyes. Kal. Helpful. Yeah, like that ever happens.]

He gave me a dog and told me if I want to skip school I should get Mrs. Kent to write me a note. I think he was mad that I accidentally burned a hole in his cape.

[ she scoffs quietly, rolling her eyes, and mutters something like of course he did. dammit, kal... under her breath. ]

Well, if you want any help with any of your powers, you've got me around now.

[It's nice, if weird. People don't usually just offer him help like that. Not Kryptonians, anyway.]

It's the least I can do for family.

[ no, really. that's like. the absolute least. ]

Yeah, I do. There were sun lamps in my ship so I was all powered up when I landed in Gotham Harbor. That was a hell of a surprise, let me tell you.

[Family. Such a weird concept. Probably it shouldn't be, but he's had a weird life. Besides his friends be them Titans or Young Justice, there haven't been that many people who he considered family. Being related by blood certainly has never qualified someone.

Kara thinks it does. Kon still isn't sure. But he's starting to feel like maybe he can be convinced.]

I had no real idea. I knew I was going to end up the same place Kal had been, but...

[ things were a Mess. ]

I'm the older cousin. I expected to get to Earth and find a baby to look after. Instead, I found an over-protective adult who doesn't know how to deal with a sixteen year old.

He was dead when they made me. I was Superman for a little while. One of four, anyway. Then he came back and took the name back.

Oh, Rao. I thought the way everyone compared me to Kal was terrible, but that must've been awful.
